Tanzcafé Arlberg Opening Show

TEXTA

AUSTRIA

Living hip-hop history

It all started in Linz. Launching their careers here, the word acrobats from TEXTA have not only been writing Austrian hip-hop history for over 30 years, but have long since become hip-hop history themselves. Rappers Flip, Huckey, Laima and Skero first hit the road back in 1993. They played their first shows shortly thereafter, before DJ Dan joined the group and they’ve not stood still since. TEXTA’s credits not only include eight studio albums, several collaborative albums with bands such as Blumentopf, Total Chaos and fellow MCs, but also a book, a documentary, theatre pieces and 800 concerts around the globe. Dialect rap and dancehall in German shape the quintet’s DNA, which has also proven itself as a four-piece after Skero left the group. However, Huckey’s death hit the band hard and TEXTA even considered going their separate ways for a time. But fortunately not for long:

collaborating as a trio, Flip, Laima and DJ Dan have continued to write hip-hop history for the last five years. They will also finally be performing at the Tanzcafé Arlberg Music Festival – and opening it no less, when they will perform their brand new song “Göd liegt auf da Strossn”, taken from their forthcoming album set to be released in spring 2025.

They will be supported by the hip-hop quartet AUTsiderZ straight outta Zirl in Tyrol, who, after three English-language albums, now focus exclusively on dialect lyrics and enrich the scene with a fresh Tyrolean breeze thanks to their mix of humour and authenticity. The fact that the two combos can work well together is demonstrated by their collaborative track “Immer no da”, which is sure to be played as they ascend their rhythmic summit.
